UnScripted | The Ground You're Stuck With — Week 2
Four soils. One seed. And one question: what’s actually growing underneath the surface?
Jesus tells a story about a farmer scattering seed, but this story was never really about farming. It was about the condition of the ground — the things that harden us, distract us, shallow us, and choke out what God is trying to grow.
Because here’s the thing: your story isn’t just what happened to you. It’s what took root in you.
In this message, Ryan Smart walks through Mark 4:1-20 — the story of the sower and the soil — and shows why Jesus describes four kinds of soil, not just four kinds of people. The ground you were handed may explain some things about you, but it doesn’t have permission to define you.
Some things don’t need more effort. They need deeper roots. Some patterns don’t need to be trimmed back. They need to be cleared from underneath.
Whether your heart has been hardened by what you’ve walked through, your faith has stayed shallow, or your life has become too crowded for anything to grow — Jesus is still planting. And the soil that seems too far gone can still become good ground.
