You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Not because nobody's around — you've got coworkers, friends, family, a phone full of contacts. But somehow none of it adds up to actually being known.
We've gotten good at staying connected without ever getting close. Keep it light, keep it easy, don't let anyone see too much — because if nobody gets close enough, they can't hurt you. But they also can't know you. And what feels like protection slowly turns into isolation.
In week three of Hope for the City, Ryan Smart takes us back to Peter's own house in Capernaum — the day four friends tore a hole in the roof to lower a paralyzed man in front of Jesus. Thirty years later, writing to a scattered, displaced church, Peter hands them that same picture: you're not meant to stand alone, you're living stones being built into a house.
You weren't meant to live alone. You were meant to belong to a home.
