Hope FOR the City | The Prison of Anxiety — Week 5

You know what you should do. You just can't seem to move.

Some thoughts don't visit. They move in. You wake up with it, drive with it, lie down with it. Nothing new has happened — you're just thinking about the same thing again. And the more you rehearse a thought, the more automatic it gets, until you stop hearing it as a thought and start hearing it as a fact.

That's when anxiety stops being a feeling and becomes a lens. You anticipate problems that haven't happened. You replay conversations that already did. You prepare for outcomes you can't control. And knowing you're doing it doesn't make it stop.

Here's what makes it serious: anxiety doesn't just change what you think. It changes what you do. It keeps you from the decision, the conversation, the opportunity, the step. The voice of anxiety is stalling your ability.

In week five of Hope for the City, Ryan Smart walks through Acts 12, where Peter is chained between two soldiers the night before his execution — and God doesn't hand him a plan. He hands him one instruction at a time. Peter doesn't even understand what's happening until after he takes the steps. Not before.

Faith isn't the absence of fear. Faith means fear doesn't get to decide what you do. And your circumstances don't get to rename you — because God simply is. I AM.

You don't need the whole plan. You need the next step.
